And It is Windows Vista for the Lose!
I just got off the phone with a staff member who told me about her experience buying a new laptop. She said that she and her husband were looking at a PC, but everyone has told her that she won’t like Vista -including the sales people she talked to. She said, “Why would I buy something if you’re telling me that I’m not going to like it?” The sales person said, “Well, we have Apple laptops.”
She ended up going with a Mac, of course, and loves it. The store where she bought it offers a 1 hr per week tutoring service for $99 per year, and she’s thinking about doing that to get up to speed with the change from Windows to OS X.
Microsoft is losing.

I think Microsoft has already lost.
Let’s see – do you know anyone that is using their Virtualization product?
Vista – reminds me of Windows ME – everyone in Microsoft loved it – except me – the end consumer
I recently made the switch to MAC and… I wont go back.
Loosing – nope… I would say they lost already.

If nothing else, they will be forced to make a better product. Until then, it’s Mac for me

I was a diehard Linux fan . . . and YEARS ago I was a Microsoft Fanboy . . . but over the years I got tired of the constant battles. Linux is running fine on my Dell laptop for my surfing needs and web server test environment, but then for my multimedia/etc… needs I now have my trusty iMac that I bought last December. I’ve saved so much time and frustration using that platform that I’m just awestruck at times how night/day different they are. I’ve used Vista and I can honestly say it’s not that quantum leap product that Windows 3.1->Windows 95 or 95->XP was . . . this is XP with some window dressing. I can understand the “well it’s the applications that cause issues” arguments, but if you have to jump through hoops dealing with the OS, on the platform, then it’s ALWAYS going to be an issue. You have to control as many variables as you can, and having a Dell/HP/whitebox with XYZ video/sound/etc… and everything else in there as variables is just asking for taking it in the shorts on usability/reliability. I still trudge along with a XP system at my work place, right next to an old iMac G3, and my Dell laptop . . . I use all three daily in my job, but I’m very thankful when I get home to my real workhorse.

Microsoft has also lost the mobile platform battle. iPhone is #2 behind BlackBerry and soon to overtake BlackBerry in my opinion. Also, a little tip for Mac users: Do not use MS Office for Windows. It’s painful. I’m convinced Microsoft doesn’t want it to work well on a Mac. Instead go for the iWork 2008. It’s Microsoft Office compatible and runs much better on the macs.

Well, if I was a salesperson and could sell a (generally more expensive) Mac to a person and possibly rake in an extra $99/year in training, I might be tempted to badmouth Vista too! I don’t have extensive Vista experience but it’s running well for me on my personal laptop, work desktop, and three others here including our senior pastor, my boss the Business Administrator, and our Facilities Director. We don’t have the hardware to support Vista everywhere yet nor the budget to pay for the upgrade, but for new equipment it’s not a bad choice.
To truly have meaning the woman would need to actually buy a Vista machine and use it for a while. Just being told by a salesperson that “she wouldn’t like it” means nothing other than the sales guy wanted a bigger commission and/or is a parrot with no experience. Granted, a lot of salespeople at retail computer stores are in the same boat. And I’m trying to be nice here
Not that I dislike Apple or Macs. I actually like them, but I’ve never owned more than my iPod or iPhone. I do dislike getting Macs to talk to a Windows domain on a corporate network, but that’s a whole other set of issues.
